A stopover site is not just a quay.
It is a gateway to a territory, a meeting point between a river, professionals, residents, crews and visitors from elsewhere.

After several months spent in the field observing, listening, supporting — and sometimes questioning — practices, one thing became clear:

👉 shore-side river cruising deserves dedicated moments of exchange, rooted in real-life situations, far from theoretical discourse or one-size-fits-all solutions.

It is in this spirit that AF Fluvial Conseil is launching in 2026 “À bord du territoire”, a cycle of three exchange sessions throughout the year, designed as moments of collective reflection and open to all stakeholders involved in shore-side river cruise reception.

Field perspectives on shore-side river cruise reception, between cruise company expectations and local realities

This first exchange session will focus on a central topic:
👉 the real role of a stopover site today.

In particular, we will address:

• what a stopover site is (and is not) today,
• what cruise companies concretely expect for the comfort of crews and passengers,
• the local constraints faced by territories,
• and above all, possible areas for progress — not in search of perfection, but through continuous improvement.

The aim is not to deliver ready-made solutions, but to:

• share field-based perspectives,
• open up discussion,
• and give everyone avenues to move forward at their own pace.
